NAME: Paula Clark

AGE: 37

LOCATION: Floridian expat living in a little village in the UK

# OF BABES: 1

STYLING: I AM MODERN MOTHERHOOD® | LILAC MAGIC ROUND SUNGLASSES

HOW HAS BECOMING A MOM CHANGED YOU? As cheesy as it sounds, it gives me purpose. It’s also let me know that I am never alone. Both metaphorically and literally. I’ve got this littlest buddy and for right now I am his number one (and his mine) and I just never knew I could love someone as much as him. He is only 2, but everyday I just look at him in awe. I made that. It has been humbling.

HOW DO YOU STAY CONNECTED WITH YOURSELF AND MAINTAIN WHILE ROCKING THE MOM-LIFE? I have always been a firm believer that even after you have kids that it is crucial to stay true to yourself. Just because you are a parent now does not mean you have to “grow up” - my husband and I still make time to go to gigs and hang out with friends. We both know it is important for us to share responsibility and both parent so neither one of us is stressed that they are taking everything on. I stay in touch with friends a lot and my online Punky Mom community keep me feeling capable as a mother and that I am not alone in this. I try and practice some form of self care everyday, even if it is as small as getting dressed that day.

WHAT IS YOUR MOM UNIFORM? I work from home so most days I stay comfy in leggings and a band shirt. I’ve been lucky to have met a lot of moms running their own small businesses so a lot of what I wear is mother/feminist/sisterhood inspired. I’m big into enamel pins at the moment so I’m always switching them around on my jackets depending on my mood that day. Pair that with some chucks or docs and I am good to go.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE RECEIVED? Empowered women, empower women.

WHAT IS IN YOUR BAG? Essentials. Mascara, Rose Salve and Sunglasses! I’m a Florida girl and even in cloudy England I sport them.

BEYONCE OR LAURYN HILL? Both because c’mon. Lauryn was crucial in showing that rap doesn’t always have to be misogynistic. Beyonce would not be able to have dropped something like Lemonade (which is so amazing) without Lauryn paving that road. Both queens.

WHAT SONG ARE YOU LISTENING TO ON REPEAT? I listen to a lot of different music but the one that has been stuck in my head for the past year and must be played weekly is Mitzi, American Girl. I’m a sucker for guitar distortion and all I want to do is have the guts to be able to sing like that.

CELEBRITY CLOSET YOU WANT TO RAID: Gwen Stefani, Dita Von Teese and Sharon Needles
